The Cedars is working closely with the Maine Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as our Medical Director at MaineHealth to ensure the safety and well being of our residents. To date, there have been 3,328 positive cases of COVID-19 in Maine with 1,756 positive cases in Cumberland County. The total number of active cases is 525.
There are currently no positive cases of COVID-19 at The Atrium, independent living or at The Osher Inn, assisted living at The Cedars. On the afternoon of July 1, a patient from the hospital was admitted to short-stay rehabilitation on the Leibowitz neighborhood. The individual had two negative tests for COVID-19 during their hospitalization. Upon admission, our medical director re-tested the patient due to clinical concerns. This morning, our lab reported that the patient’s test results were positive for COVID-19.
This individual is stable and remains in an isolated section of the Leibowitz neighborhood, within a COVID-19 Unit. The Unit is separated from the rest of the neighborhood with a floor-to-ceiling barrier. Designated nursing staff are caring for this patient. The Cedars has the personal protective equipment and protocols in place to ensure we are following CDC and DHHS guidelines to contain this case. The Maine CDC is directing The Cedars for further testing; we will inform the community as this takes place.
In keeping with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regulations, we are required to discontinue all outside visits for residents of the Hoffman Center until there are no positive cases in the building for 14 days. Window visits will be available for residents of the Shapiro and Black Wolf neighborhoods, only. We are increasing FaceTime visits for all patients on Leibowitz. We will notify everyone when outside visits resume. Please call 207-221-7000, Monday through Friday between 8:30 and 3:30 to schedule a window or FaceTime visit.
Outside visits for The Atrium and The Osher Inn will remain in place, as scheduled.

In addition, all dining rooms remain closed and group activities have been replaced with remote and one-on-one offerings. We are delivering meals directly to resident rooms/apartments. We are providing grocery shopping and pharmacy pick ups for the residents at The Atrium. Staff are wearing masks while at work and are getting screens/temperature checks prior to starting work. We are highly diligent about sanitizing all work and resident environments, common areas and high-touch locations.
