FAQ’s

How will I get from the hospital to The Cedars Rehabilitation Center?
The hospital case manager will arrange transportation either through a wheelchair van, ambulance or, if appropriate, through a family member or friend.

What happens when I arrive at The Cedars?
Once you are brought to your room, members of the nursing and rehabilitation team will work with you in the admission process, which includes asking you questions about your health and status. We understand that for the first day or so, everything is new for you. We encourage you to bring any questions, compliments or concerns to our attention.

What if my physician doesn’t come to The Cedars?
Many physicians do not come to rehabilitation/skilled nursing facilities/transitional care. In that case, our Medical Director, and team of physicians, nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants will be happy to manage your medical care and work with the rehabilitation team during your stay. Once you are ready to transition from The Cedars back home, we ask that you follow up with your primary care physician.

When will my therapy begin?
We offer therapy services seven days a week. In most cases, you will be seen by a therapist upon the day of admission. After your evaluation is completed, the therapy team will begin your individualized plan of care. This plan determines the frequency and duration of your therapy.

What type of clothing should I bring?
You will be up and dressed each day, so bring clothes that you are comfortable wearing and that are easy to get on and off. We recommend loose pants or shorts, t-shirts and sturdy shoes.  Also, be sure to include important daily items such as undergarments, pajamas, socks, a robe and slippers. You might also wish to bring any preferred toiletry items.

How will I get updates about my progress?
Your Care Coordinator will meet with you after the rehabilitation team has had a chance to work with you, typically within the first three to four days. We’ll discuss your safe transition home, answer your questions, and then check-in with you periodically throughout your stay.

Is there internet and cable television access?
Yes, The Cedars offers wireless internet throughout our rehabilitation rooms and common areas. We also have a computer available in our library for community use. In addition, each patient has a cable-equipped television.

Are there salon or barber services available for me?
Yes, our Salon and Day Spa offers hair, skin, massage and nail services as well as barber services.

What if I need special equipment or services when I am discharged?
Your Care Coordinator will arrange for any medical equipment and home health services prior to your transition home. Home health services, and most necessary equipment that are ordered by the physician are typically covered by insurance.

Medicare and most insurances are accepted. For more information, contact Brian DesPres, Rehabilitation Manager at 207-221-7000 or bdespres@thecedarsportland.org.
