OVERALL PROJECT GOAL
The Mayer-Rothschild Foundation Designation of Excellence in Person-Centered Long-Term Care seeks to develop a research-driven designation process that is grounded in resident perspectives and one that denotes person-centered excellence in long-term care settings. This designation will be one that can both inform and be widely adopted by the long-term care industry. It will serve as a tool to inform the public about best practices through creating awareness of and demand for high quality person-centered care across the nation.
The designation will serve as an industry measure to recognize the best institutional behaviors and practices which are excellent and person-centered in design, delivery, and outcomes, and promote the wide acceptance and implementation of such behaviors and practices. Ultimately, The Mayer-Rothschild Designation of Excellence will become a touchstone for the industry, and a way for the public to access excellence and person-centered practices and values at these care communities.
The Mayer-Rothschild Foundation Designation of Excellence in Person-Centered Long-Term Care award has four planned phases, each twelve months long. Over a four-year period, these phases will include planning, discovery, validation and launch of milestones. This is year one of the four-phases, the planning phase.
YEAR TWO GOALS (2022)
- Build out detail of the Designation of Excellence framework to include achievable, evidence-based standards in each person-centered care (PCC) domain, and embedding those standards into accessible, utilitarian self-study and quality monitoring tools.
- Develop the substance and details for the process of long-term care (LTC) settings applying for, achieving, and maintaining a Designation of Excellence in person-centered care.
YEAR 2 ACTIVITIES (2022)
- Ongoing literature review on PCC domain best practices, PCC operations, PCC policy activity, and relevant implementation science
- Convene monthly Steering Committee meetings with a reconfigured nationally representative group
- Analyze Year One data from all stakeholder groups
- Develop process for holding national listening sessions and associated national survey of LTC stakeholders hosted on project website
- Work with select group of LTC case study sites to field test and obtain detailed feedback on Designation framework modules and application process
- Meet monthly with reconfigured Expert Panelists and subcommittees on policy, implementation, and DEI.
- Convene a National Panel for use of Delphi Method sessions to brainstorm DoE-related policy issues
- Continued development of DoE PCC modules, including technological infrastructure, working with IT and graphic design experts to support user-friendly design
- Take advantage of opportunities to present and publish on project findings in local and national conferences and publications
- Continue to disseminate information about the project through social and mainstream media to support recruitment of stakeholder input, feedback, and suggestions

The Mayer-Rothschild Foundation Designation of Excellence in Person-Centered Long-Term Care project prioritizes racial equity in every level of our research, development, and implementation. We also wish to center the importance of gender equity, the needs of GLBTQIA+ individuals and communities, those living in poverty, those living with disabilities, and the intersections among these identities and experiences. In order for the Designation to be the most relevant, transformative, and genuinely person-centered, for today and into the future, those at the intersections of marginalized identities must be centered.
We also know that building relationships, collaboration, and meaningful partnerships takes time and care. It is a process. As we walk on this journey, we welcome your feedback and participation.

CORONAVIRUS STATEMENT
In order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, together, we will be taking a proactive and preventive approach in conducting project activities. The health and safety of our residents, co-workers, providers, and community is our top priority as the project unfolds. As the Coronavirus pandemic evolves, we will monitor federal, state, and local public health communications about COVID-19 regulations, guidance, and recommendations and ensure that best practices are incorporated into project activities. Implementing this guidance will help prevent exposure and provide a critical infrastructure to our activities. In addition, in recognition of the impact that COVID-19 has had on the long-term care landscape, this project will include a special focus on identifying how person-centered care can be provided within the backdrop of a national pandemic.
