SUMMARY:Dementia Support Group at The Cedars ~ August 2025
DESCRIPTION:Dementia Support Group at The Cedars\n\n\n \n\n\nTuesday\, August 12 from 6-7:30 pm\n\n\n📍 The Atrium at The Cedars\n\n\n640 Ocean Ave.\, Portland\n\n\n \n\n\n Please join us on August 12 for a conversation with Susan Wehry\, MD\, about the unique nature of supporting a person living with dementia. Dr. Wehry will discuss the burdens and blessings of being a care partner\, hear from you about your experiences\, and provide resources designed to alleviate the burdens and maximize the joys. She will also distribute some caregiver self-assessment tools and ask for your feedback on which ones are most relevant and easy to use. This will help inform our Mindful Connections Dementia Respite program.\n\n\n \n\n\nSupporting and providing care for another person is a near-universal experience. Jocelyn Carter famously said\, ‘there are only four kinds of people in the world: those who have been caregivers\, those who are currently caregivers\, those who will be caregivers\, and those who will need caregivers.’ \n\n\n \n\n\n Dr. Susan Wehry is a board-certified geriatrics psychiatrist and dementia specialist with over 40 years of experience as a clinician\, educator\, and advocate. An Associate Clinical Professor at UNE’s College of Medicine\, Susan recently joined The Cedars and serves as Medical Director of the Dementia Respite Innovation program.\n\n\n \n\n\nThis group is open to individuals with a loved one who is living with dementia.\n\n\nPlease RSVP by calling The Cedars at 207-221-7100.\n\n\nFor more information about the event\, please contact Susan at susanraychardllc@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Bates College Collaboration: Music and Life Enrichment
DESCRIPTION:The Cedars is excited to announce a special music and life enrichment collaboration with Bates College that will begin in March.  \n\n  \nBates College students will start a music program for residents of The Cedars over the three-month spring semester. The students will develop and implement enriching and engaging musical programs each week that inspire our residents to explore their musical artistic capabilities and form social connectedness within their communities. Students will share their passion for music while providing residents the opportunity to actively participate\, make choices\, and express their musical artistic capabilities through educational classes\, presentations\, creative composition\, and interactive performances. The first goal of this program is to provide student musicians the opportunity to bring their musical artistry to older adults\, practice their music in a unique real-world setting and cultivate reciprocal and mutually beneficial partnerships with older adults. The second goal is to provide older adults an intergenerational experience by providing opportunities for older adults to share their artistic capabilities\, wisdom\, creative insight and life experiences. Each program will be tailored to each communities’ abilities. \n  \n  \n
