As part of a renewed emphasis on resident-centered care,
The Skilled Care Center began homestyle meal service for residents as an alternative to communal meals in our dining room.

Rather than asking residents to select meals in advance and eat them from trays at set times, Dining Services created an innovative system that allows our seniors the flexibility and comfort of a meal at home. Residents now gather in bright day rooms, tempted by the smells of a fresh, hot, wholesome buffet and the sounds of restaurant-style table service. No longer rushed to distribute trays with a limited shelf life, our Certified Nursing Assistants can spend more time talking with residents and offering assistance with their meals.

This nourishing new program required more resources and staff effort—but created bigger appetities and brighter smiles.
