The Cedars has been voted Greater Portland’s Best Elder Care Facility for ten consecutive years by Market Surveys of America
(click here to VOTE). In an industry that is highly regulated and adversely awarded, this designation is highly coveted. A family member recently commented, “Awards like these, by independent sources, help make it easy for me to decide where my mother should live.”

The Cedars Salon and Day Spa Wins Award

We’re very proud to announce that on May
20, 2009 The Cedars Salon and Day Spa was
recognized for winning the Innovation of the
Year Award by Aging Services of Maine
and New Hampshire. The Spa program has big impact on the quality of life of our
patients and residents—and word is getting
around! Visits to the Spa have almost tripled
since its opening.
The inspired idea of Angela Hunt, Executive
Director, the Salon and Day Spa is more than a
luxury—it is a unique therapeutic experience.
We designed a retreat where residents can
spend time with friends or family, be showered with undivided attention and boost their
self image. “The best feedback is the sheer
popularity,” says Angela. “We wanted to offer
the type of experience that many people could
only imagine, make it affordable and bring it
right to them.”
Lisa MacLeod, a licensed cosmetologist,
manages the daily operations of the program
and personally provides most services. All her
offerings are therapeutic and holistic, targeting
all five senses. We even use “life histories”
to engage a resident with cognitive issues
in meaningful conversation while they are
enjoying their treatments. Everybody
appreciates a little self-indulgence.

Award Winning Chef!

How many senior communities are fortunate enough to have an award-winning culinary team? David Kessler, Director of Dining Services defends two wins against regional restaurant chefs in The Great Chili and Chowder Challenge, sponsored by People’s Regional Opportunity Program (PROP). David and his team took home their first Judges Award for Best Chili, as well as Best Chowder for the second year! And they impressed more than the judges, also winning the Peoples Choice for Best Chowder. David has made us very proud ... and keeps us very well-fed.
