Strong Voices for Skilled Nursing Care:
Resident Council and Family Council
The Family Council at The Skilled Care Center
Run by family members of residents at The Skilled Care Center at The Cedars, The Family Council provides an open and responsive forum for families to discuss their needs, concerns, and thoughts regarding the nursing care of their loved one. The Council is also a safe place to share the stories and challenges of having a loved one in long term skilled nursing care with others who understand. While meetings are held regularly at The Skilled Care Center, updates are provided for family members who may live too far away to attend.
The Resident Council
The Resident Council was founded by residents of The Skilled Care Center at The Cedars as a place to promote issues, raise concerns and make suggestions. The Resident Council is also the host of our annual May Ball, the kickoff celebration for Older Americans Month at The Cedars. All residents of The Skilled Care Center at The Cedars are automatically members of this important group, and The Cedars leadership is attentive to and supportive of its work.
The Annual Family Forum at The Skilled Care Center
Unique in Maine, our annual Family Forum gives families and friends of The Skilled Care Center residents an opportunity to meet directly with our staff and senior leadership, and to directly influence the quality of care and the comfort of our nursing care residents. Through workshops, roundtable discussions, question and answer sessions and one-on-one conversations with nursing care staff, The Cedars creates a safe space for families to be honest about their concerns and to become better informed about their choices.
